THEME

In August of ‘09 right before beginning college I was in an accident which eventually led to surgery (anterior cervical discectomy C5-C6) on June 15th 2011.

Although there was extensive damage to my neck which was repaired by the surgery, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING THE SURGERY—if possible. Repairing and reinforcing the injured disc with metal plates actually puts the rest of your vertebrae at risk for damage from other injuries, which is exactly what happened to me.

In July of 2012, I was in a second car accident (also, neither of these accidents were my fault) that resulted in the herniation of my C6-C7 disc, as well as bulges above and below my surgery.

I am currently undergoing physical therapy, TMJ treatment (also a new injury), deal with headaches on a day-to-day basis and severe, unrelenting muscle spasms in my shoulders, scapula, and neck. I also have serious muscular degeneration and winging in my thoracic region.

Over the course of 3 years, I have undergone surgery, traction, stretching, strengthening, injections (Botox and Cortisone), PT, ESTEM, ETPS, ultrasound, massage, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy. I smoke weed to relieve chronic pain and also for pleasure, relaxation, and relief. I also take numerous medications.

I do not share these things because I am asking for pity, I share because during the course of my struggling, I have had very few people who truly know the extent of the agony I have undergone. And during those times of agony, what I wish for more than anything is understanding. Someone who knows what it’s like to have been through difficult shit and came out on the other side intact, or at least for the most part. Anyways, for anyone reading this who has been or is going through awful things—I understand, and I am soldiering through this journey right beside you. Do not hesitate to reach out and talk to me. I am shy at initiating conversation, but I love people, and I would love to talk and provide support or whatever else I can offer.

Despite my hardships, I love my life; my friends, family, and my boyfriend. I am passionate individual who is dedicated to the discovery of new knowledge and a fighter for the preservation of the future of education. I believe in free thinking, freedom of creativity, peace, and unity. I am a ridiculous romantic and a lover of the written word. If you like literature, I like you.
